Since only a limited number of children can live in the Care Centre and there are many more in need of support, the Kakamega Orphans Project reaches out to orphans who stay with guardians who live in desperate poverty and cannot afford to feed and care for the children properly. The Homebased Sponsorhip Program covers the costs of education for these children and helps with their other needs.
There are 100 children in the Homebased Sponsorship Program. The $360/year sponsorship covers the childrens’ school fees, uniforms, shoes, books, and stationery. They also get a mattress and blanket, and, three times a year, receive an important supply of food to share with their families. The program sees that the children get the medical attention they need, such as HIV retroviral drugs and hospital/doctor visits. The children and their guardians are incredibly grateful for the gift that this program gives.
