Alistair Amalemba's Success Story

University of Nairobi, Class of 2017

Alistair joined KOCC in 2008, and he is someone whose success and compassion reminds us why our support is so crucially important for the young people we serve.

Was it real work he's so happy about? Or Facebook?
As a top high school student he was awarded scholarship support from the Kenyan government, and with additional support from program Alistair was able to study education at Kenya's highest-ranked school, the University of Nairobi. He completed his Bachelor's degree in 2016, and looks forward to his official graduation ceremony in the fall of 2017.
Today, Alistair continues to teach at KGSA while using his salary to support himself through Certified Public Accountant courses while also sending his younger brother through high school.  He hopes to undertake a Master's degree soon, and is a shining example of the confident and caring young Kenyans our work seeks to help develop.

As a university student he interned at Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA), a free high school for girls in Nairobi's Kibera slum. When they offered him a job as a  teacher, he took it - while continuing to work toward his education  degree.   Currently he teaches geography and business subjects while coaching basketball, and for a while he was doing this while attending school full-time.
