Beryl Busolo's Success Story

Kenyatta University, Class of 2017

Beryl Busolo is a graduate from our Home-based program who continues to inspire us with her remarkable accomplishments.

She finished studying for her Bachlor's degree at the end of 2016, and she now works for an NGO called Enactus at their Nairobi office. There, she helps to run a social entrepreneurship competition for teams from 33 colleges and universities across Kenya.

As a university student, Beryl Busolo was already finding ways to give back to the Care Centre community; for example she worked for us as a camp counselor, she assisted us with wholesale shopping in Nairobi, and she helped administer Monitoring & Evaluation surveys for our Home-based program

In late 2016, Beryl graduated from Kenyatta University in Nairobi with a degree in Public Health & Sanitation
Beryl and her sister were raised by their aunt in a household that was in need of almost everything but love. For lack of fees, Beryl was in and out of school before joining our home-based family care program in 2006. We connected her with a sponsor whose donations helped provide for her school expenses and other basic needs, and, as the years passed, Beryl emerged as one of the most intelligent and thoughtful students in our programs.

She graduated from high school with exam scores well-within the top 10% nationwide, an impressive performance that earned her a tuition and fees scholarship at Kenyatta University in Nairobi.  With additional support from KOCC to pay for her school supplies and living expenses, Beryl went off to study Public Health & Sanitation, and she performed highly, earning a coveted internship with the United Nations.

Beryl has always impressed us with her honesty, thoughtfulness, and genuine compassion for others, which is why we aren’t surprised that she plans to continue developing a career in public service. With her intellect and dedication, we are sure she will find great success improving her own life while she helps to improve others’.

As a high school graduate, Beryl already bore the look of a confident young woman who is going places

Back in school and now in the professional world, Beryl has always been an enthusiastic and diligent worker
