HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
Helping bright but needy students go to the best schools when they otherwise couldn't

Because of transportation challenges and limited resources, the best public high schools in Kenya are large residential boarding schools. They are more costly, but when our students qualify for a better education at boarding school, we make sure they can go.
These boarding schools enforce busy study schedules and have high expectations from students. In Kakamega County, more than three-quarters of high schools are boarding schools. Day schools are less common, and they also suffer from much lower quality. In many cases, students are at risk of lower attendance and performance as a result of long walks to and from school, a heavy burden of farm or household chores, and - for girls - the sometimes-unwanted attentions of men.
Despite costing nearly twice as much each year - $1,000 versus $500 when other necessities are included - most KOCC high school students are boarders because they have the best chance to improve their futures that way.

We support high school students across all tiers of Kenyan schools, from local day schools to prestigious National-level boarding schools
Kenyan students are admitted to public high schools of varying quality based on their 8th grade exam scores. Schools are ranked in four tiers, from the most exclusive National and Provincial level boarding schools, down to the County and District level boarding and day schools. The highest-scoring students are admitted to the best boarding high schools, and so forth until the lowest-scorers are only offered admission to their local day schools.
KOCC supports students at all four levels based on their abilities, dedication, and of course the school to which they are accepted. We are proud to have helped quite a number of students attend prestigious, National and Provincial level boarding schools where they have access to the best public education possible in their country.
