HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
When our students graduate 8th grade and move on to high school, we make sure they have what they need to focus on learning.
The Problem
For young Kenyans who pass their rigorous 8th grade exams, moving forward into high school requires money to pay for high school fees and supplies. For the critically-poor students who graduate from our Home-based and Care Centre programs, high school costs can seem like an insurmountable barrier.
What we’re doing about it
When our students finish 8th grade, we make sure that those who qualify for high school have what they need to pursue their high school dreams. With the help of sponsorships, our program pays high school fees while also providing guidance, support, and essential material needs for life and school.
Less than 50% of Kenyan youth graduate high school |
But 85% of
our elementary school grads are attending or completed high school |
And 65% of our high school grads have continued on to college or university

Our new partner Crossroads Springs Africa is helping KOCC increase its reach and impact in Kakamega County by supporting 114 high school students
Kakamega Orphan Care Centre's High School sponsorship program provides school costs and essential needs - as well as guidance and support - to more than 165 high school students. Friends of Kakamega and its generous sponsors support the 60 high school students who grew up in KOCC's elementary school programs, while a new partnership with Crossroads Springs Africa is enabling KOCC to leverage its community roots and management expertise to support an additional 103 needy high school students across Kakamega and Vihiga Counties. |
Not all of our students are fully sponsored, and sponsorships do not cover all of our costs for running the program. We need help covering the difference to keep our students in school. Please help us do this by making a donation to our High School Fund.
60 students are attending high school in 2017 through Friends of Kakamega sponsorships Over the last ten years, we have produced 78 high school graduates |
