HOME-BASED PROGRAM
We support children in the greatest need
The women elders who manage Kakamega Orphans Care Centre come from seven surrounding villages, and their deep community roots help them identify children for sponsorship using the criterion of most urgent and extreme need.
Many of the children we support are full orphans, but more than half have one living parent and all have a family member to care for them at home. We do not want to change that, because we believe it is best for children to live with their families. However, we see that severe poverty and instability at home erect barriers to learning and development, and so our program offers Home-based sponsorships to help children and families facing the greatest challenges in needy communities we serve.

Home-based sponsorships provide cash for food, medicine, and basic needs, which improve students' health, and increase school attendance & performance |
It unusual but sometimes happens that children move from Home-based family care to a more supportive and stable environment at the Care Centre (they will continue staying with family during school holidays if it is safe to do so). Similarly, sometimes family situations change and children who are residents of the Care Centre are able to move back home with a family guardian - supported by a Home-based sponsorship.
