CARE CENTRE PROGRAM
Family Matters

Where a caring, loving, and supportive home exists for them, children are sponsored through the Home-based Program and their guardians receive financial and other assistance so they are able to to better provide care. And while we prefer this route of support whenever it is suitable for the child, there are some cases where a safe home does not exist, or where the barriers to normal development and a quality education at home are so immense that residence at the Care Centre appears the best way to jump-start the child’s future.
As much as possible, Care Centre children maintain strong ties with their families and communities, for example most return home to stay with family during periods of school holidays, and also for important events like weddings and funerals. In cases where a safe family home is not available, children stay with host families in their village communities when the Care Centre closes during school breaks.

Sometimes circumstance at home or with family change, and a parent re-emerges or a relative offers to provide care, and in these situations children may leave the Care Centre residence to be cared for by family. Sponsorships may convert to home-based support when a child moves back in with family, or they may be re-matched with a another Care Centre child.
We've started providing some essential goods like mattresses, blankets, food, and solar lights to the families of Care Centre children. Increasingly, we are looking to find other more powerful ways of helping these families improve their condition and provide better care.
